Your first Hailian VPN connection
After installing the client and signing in, start with its default connection settings.
Connect in three steps
- Open Hailian VPN and sign in with your email and password.
- Leave the location on Auto select initially. If performance is poor, choose another location from the control near the bottom of the home screen. For users in mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore are useful locations to compare; the best route still depends on your network.
- Press Connect and wait for the status to change to Connected.
Open the website or app you wanted to use and check that it loads. To change your exit country, choose a different location in the Locations screen.
First-use permissions
The operating system may request network or VPN permission on the first connection. Confirm that the request belongs to Hailian before approving it. macOS may also require permission for its background helper; see the Mac installation guide.
If the connection does not start, follow connection failure troubleshooting.
