Install and use Hailian VPN on macOS
Hailian VPN provides a macOS client for macOS 11 and later, with support for Apple silicon and Intel Macs. Use the current package offered on the website.
Download and install
- Download the macOS
.dmgfrom the download page. - Open the DMG.
- Drag Hailian VPN into Applications.
- Launch it from Applications or Launchpad, rather than running it inside the mounted DMG.
Sign in with your email and password. New users can create an account on the registration page.
First connection: allow the background helper
The Mac client uses a background helper to establish the tunnel. On the first connection:
- Choose a location and press Connect.
- If the app asks you to allow its helper, open System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions. On some macOS releases the page is named Login Items.
- Find Hailian VPN under Allow in the Background / App Background Activity and enable its entry. macOS may require administrator approval.
- Return to Hailian and press Connect again.
This is normally a one-time setup. If the entry does not appear, confirm the application is installed in Applications, reopen it there and try connecting again.
Main controls
Use the central button to connect or disconnect, the Locations screen to select a country, and the routing control to choose intelligent or global routing. Settings includes an update check.
Some versions use a connection mechanism that does not create a standard VPN entry in System Settings → Network. Check the status inside the Hailian app.
Installation or connection problems
If macOS reports an unidentified developer, damaged package or malware warning, download a fresh copy from the official site and inspect the exact alert. Do not treat every security warning as harmless. Apple's guidance on safely opening apps explains the distinction. Ask support if the alert persists.
If the app connects but pages fail or run slowly, compare another location and routing mode, then follow connection troubleshooting.
To uninstall, quit the app and move it from Applications to Trash. Review the corresponding Hailian background item in System Settings if you also need to disable its helper.
