Troubleshoot slow Hailian VPN connections and buffering
If the VPN connects but browsing or video is slow, compare the route and the underlying network.
Auto select is not always the nearest location
If the current route is in Europe or North America and you are far away, latency can be higher. Open the Current location / Auto select control near the bottom of the app home screen and compare other locations.
For mainland China users, Hong Kong, Japan and Singapore are useful nearby candidates. For other regions, choose locations appropriate to your geography. Compare two or three on the same network and keep the one that works best for your task.
Other checks
- Try a nearer location; lower latency can help, although it does not guarantee more throughput.
- Compare a manually selected route if Auto select performs poorly.
- Repeat outside peak hours. The Chinese guide highlights 8–11 p.m. as a common local congestion period; peak times vary by network and country.
- Pause background downloads and cloud synchronization that compete for bandwidth.
Member routes can have different capacity from trial routes, but a membership upgrade cannot fix every local network or destination problem. Compare during your trial and check the current plan before buying.
If the issue continues, read connection failure help and tell support which location, network and task you compared.
