Proxy subscriptions and VPN apps: which workflow suits you?

In Chinese networking communities, the word “airport” commonly refers to a subscription-based proxy service, rather than an aviation facility. Users usually receive a subscription URL or configuration and import it into a compatible client. A consumer VPN app typically combines sign-in, route selection, billing and connection controls.

These are workflow categories, not reliable quality rankings. A proxy subscription can have a well-maintained app, and a VPN app can be poorly supported. Compare the actual product and your own needs.

Configuration and daily use

A subscription service often lets experienced users choose a compatible client and customise routing rules. That flexibility also means checking client compatibility, subscription updates and configuration errors. Losing or exposing a subscription URL can grant someone else access.

An integrated client aims to reduce those steps: install, sign in, choose a route and connect. It may provide fewer advanced controls, so confirm that its modes fit your task rather than assuming that simpler is always better.

Routing and coverage

Some clients operate mainly as application proxies; others use a system tunnel. The distinction affects which apps and traffic are covered. Smart routing intentionally leaves selected traffic direct, while a broader global mode uses the tunnel for more destinations.

Look at the specific client and platform implementation. The service name alone cannot establish whether DNS, UDP, background apps or all device traffic use the route you expect.

Updates and maintenance

With separate subscriptions and clients, the user may need to maintain both components. An integrated provider can handle more of that work in one app, but users still need trusted installers and updates. In either case, avoid modified packages and publicly shared credentials.

Price, capacity and support

Compare traffic limits, device allowances, available regions, renewal terms and support. An unlimited-traffic plan is different from dedicated bandwidth. A long location list is different from proven performance from your ISP.

A low headline price can be attractive, but reliability is better assessed by using the actual task during a legitimate trial. Test websites, calls, downloads or work tools you need, and include a busy period if possible.

Which option is a better fit?

A technically confident user who wants custom rules and already understands the client may prefer a subscription workflow. Someone who wants account, download, routing and support together may prefer an integrated app. Neither category guarantees access in every restricted country or acceptance by every destination.

Hailian's client is designed for the integrated workflow. See Downloads, current plans and the first connection guide to decide whether that workflow fits. There is no new comparative speed test in this article.

Before paying

Check the official operator and privacy terms, compatible systems, refund conditions, plan limits and the update channel. Keep account credentials private. A successful connection is useful evidence for your own test conditions, not a promise of permanent availability everywhere.
